The Stoke City goalkeeper has continued to flourish in his new role as number one after taking over from Asmir Begovic in the summer. Highly rated from a young age, Butland finally appears to be fulfilling his vast potential. A string of assured performances across October helped the Potters record three clean sheets away from home, most impressively against Newcastle to grind out a battling 0-0 draw.
Mamadou Sakho

  • Name: Mamadou Sakho
After starting the season behind Dejan Lovren in the Anfield pecking order, Sakho has emerged as one of the club’s top performers since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp. A commanding display against Tottenham Hotspur helped Liverpool to a respectable draw and then, most notably, the Frenchman was superb against Chelsea, countering the physical threat of Diego Costa and distributing the ball excellently throughout the game.

Long regarded as flimsy and soft-centred, the Arsenal defence now looks to be impressively strong with Koscielny leading the way. The Frenchman has turned in a series of imposing displays, marshalling the defence expertly alongside Per Mertesacker. He also scored consecutive headed goals versus Everton and Swansea, further establishing himself as one of Arsenal’s most crucial players.

The pacey Catalonian is now comfortably the first choice right-back at high-flying Arsenal. At only 20 years of age, Bellerin has shown maturity and composure beyond his years to help his team to four wins out of four in October and also record three clean sheets. Always an attacking threat, he now looks to be one of the best young defenders across the continent.

After a slow start by his standards the Chilean was back to his best as he struck a hat-trick against Leicester at the end of September. He then followed this up with an impressive double against Manchester United and a goal in the 3-0 win at Watford. Strong performances against Everton and Swansea contributed to four wins from four in the month for the Gunners who moved level on points with leaders Manchester City.

A disappointing two-year spell at Tottenham preceded Capoue’s transfer move across North London. but throughout October he has shown why he was once regarded as the best defensive midfielder in Ligue 1.The Frenchman has been a dominant force in Watford’s midfield, providing a perfect platform for the attacking talents of Ighalo et al during October which has seen the club secure seven vital points.
Danny Drinkwater

  • Name: Danny Drinkwater
Leicester’s unsung hero so far this term, Danny Drinkwater’s future at the club was remarkably in doubt over the summer. But following increased competition from the arrival of Gokhan Inler, the 25-year-old has really stepped up. He keeps the Foxes ticking over in the middle of the park and supplies the likes of Mahrez and Vardy to kill teams off in the attacking third.

After an injury-plagued 18 months, Özil finally looks as though he is settled in English football and exhibiting the scintillating form he displayed at Werder Bremen and Real Madrid. The subtle German’s vision and finesse on the ball have helped Arsenal’s ascent to the Premier League summit. In fact, he and Santi Cazorla have combined to create goalscoring opportunities 81 times so far this season.
Jamie Vardy

Vardy has managed to keep up his sensational form for Leicester City during October and he has now, remarkably, scored in eight consecutive Premier League matches. His standout moment came away against Southampton where he notched a fine brace to seal a stunning comeback for the Foxes. The England international also scored crucial goals against Norwich, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich.
Olivier Giroud

  • Name: Olivier Giroud
Giroud has faced much criticism over the last few years and spent a period this period behind Theo Walcottt but the Arsenal frontman’s goal tally cannot be criticised. The French striker notched a goal in three of Gunners’ games during October, against Watford, Everton and Swansea, further boosting the North London side's title credentials.
Odion Ighalo

  • Name: Odion Ighalo
The Nigerian striker’s fantastic form in 2015 continued in October as his three goals and two assists see many now tipping the Hornets to survive. He scored the crucial equaliser at Bournemouth, set up both goals in the 2-0 win at Stoke and struck a brace in the 2-0 victory over West Ham.
