Norwich City are reportedly in pole position to land Wolverhampton Wanderers’ star striker Benik Afobe.

Having seemingly missed out on an audacious move for Italy forward Mattia Destro to Bologna, the newly promoted Premier League outfit have switched their attentions to one of the Championship’s top goalscorers.

The 22-year-old, who only arrived at Molineux from Arsenal in the New Year, scored a sensational 32 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions last season to finish as England’s highest goalscorer in the top four divisions.

Afobe, an England Under-21 international, has already scored twice in three games this term, alerting the likes of Aston Villa and now Norwich.

With fellow forwards Cameron Jerome, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper having little Premier League experience between the trio at Carrow Road, Canaries boss Alex Neil is eager to bolster his attacking options before the close of the transfer window as Norwich seek survival in their first season back in the top flight.

  1. No chance. Jackett has repeatedly said that he wants promotion and will not be selling his best players. Charlie Austin would be a more realistic target.

  2. As the prize for reaching the money-mad Premier League is now reckoned to be £120m then if little old Norwich want to offer us £120m for Benik we might listen. If not then just go away. With Wolves Afobe is at a big club who are going places, hopefully promotion this season, he is happy, playing well, settled, adored by the fans etc so why would he want to go to some backwater club who are never going to be a big club outside of Norfolk.
