Leicester City remain three points clear at the top of the Premier League following their 2-0 home victory against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Manchester City’s 1-0 win at struggling Sunderland keeps them in contention, but Arsenal’s disappointing 0-0 home draw against Southampton sees them move five points adrift of the Foxes and below arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, into fourth.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Everton, Spurs, West Ham, Bournemouth and Manchester United.
But in a round of convincing victories, who were the top performers?
Here’s Shoot’s Top 5 Premier League Players from the midweek fixtures…..
5. Ross Barkley (Everton)
The England international scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season as the Toffees claimed their first win since Boxing Day with ease against Newcastle.
Both of his goals came from the spot in the last five minutes, but it was his all-round display which led to manager Roberto Martinez describing him as a “phenomenal footballer”.
Having already hit the bar with a fine effort, the 22-year-old converted from the spot to put Everton 2-0 up in the 88th minute.
Then, in the third minute of additional time, Barkley was bundled over in the box by Jamaal Lascelles, who was given a straight red card.
The one club man stepped up and expertly produced a Panenka penalty down the middle as Rob Elliot dived to his left.
