West Ham United have reportedly joined the race to sign French defender Romain Thomas this month.

The Premier League club, who defeated Liverpool 2-0 at the weekend, are hopeful of beating English top-flight rivals Crystal Palace and Stoke City to the acquisition of the Angers centre-half later this transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who stands tall at 6ft 4in, has scored twice in 18 league games for the Ligue 1 outfit so far this season.

Slaven Bilic’s Hammers currently sit four points off the Premier League’s fourth spot in sixth following back-to-back victories over Southampton and Liverpool either side of the New Year.
