Stoke City are reportedly ready to cough up a staggering club-record £19m to sign France midfielder Giannelli Imbula during the January transfer window, according to L’Equipe.
The Premier League side, who currently sit seventh in the league standings, are thought to be interested in signing the FC Porto midfielder alongside English top-flight rivals Aston Villa and Southampton.
The 23-year-old, who is a former France Under-21 international, has failed to score in 20 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants this season.
Imbula; who only arrived at Porto from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in the summer, was believed to have a €50m buy-out clause in his current deal, but his disappointing performances this term have seemingly discredited that whopping figure.
Stoke’s club-record signing remains Xherdan Shaqiri after the Potters splashed out £12m back in August 2015 for the Inter Milan star.
